I'm tiling my small townhouse, 1st level. Waste/cost/difficulty is no issue. I just want to select what looks best. I like both options, but I feel diagonal has more interest. The area is small, and has a boxy feel. It seems like the diagonal would break this up. From what I've read, it makes a small area seem larger. I'm unsure if I should step outside of the traditional square/parallel look.

I like the diagonal, as long as it doesn't meet another floor going in a different direction.

I like the diagonal, too. I love light floors and those tiles are really pretty.

My opinion. I never cared for diagonal floors. I think it makes the furniture look out of whack.

But that's just me.

For small boxy areas, you want a light colored floor and you want to run the grain parallel to the short side to make the room look larger, IF that's the goal. If the area has a small entry way, I would nix the diagonal as it will look unbalanced.

Thanks! It took us a few tries to find a nice light tile. What looks light in the store, isn't at home.

Can you post the view from another door way capturing the transition into that room?

What is the lippage like on the tiles? (Lay one down "wood grain" side down and see how much it rocks.) A tile with heavy lippage can only be cut in thirds, not halves.

Also I know that you just put the tile on the floor to look at the color, but I wouldn't start the tile at the edge of the island like that.

I like the look of diagonal, but it depends on the shape of the room and the number of cuts - the gallery you show is just a big rectangle, but a LR/kitchen usually has a lot of cutouts and popouts.
