I have this wingback chair that I love in my office. I would love to recover it but that's not in my budget right now.
One thing I hate, though, are these buttons (or whatever they are called) that follow along the piping.
My question is: can I remove them without damaging the current upholstery? I ask because the ones along the top back actually damage the wall if it touches.
You can remove nailhead trim with some pliers. I recommend getting some plain trim that matches/blends with the upholstery and a glue gun to cover over the trim line where the nailheads are removed. It won't damage the chair to remove unless you get bizarrely wild with the removal.
As weezy said, nailhead trim is the name and I too would urge caution with removal. Most times they are decorative but a bad removal can pull the fabric were the hole is. Can you put a throw over it to prevent the wall damage?
You can pull them out but it will leave holes that are golng to be susceptible to fraying. If your chair hits the wall, I would recommend putting furniture cups under the legs to keep it from sliding back and hitting the wall.
