I'm looking at new flooring options and I'm intrigued by bamboo but I've never seen it in action in a house. I really don't like that hollow sound that laminate has when you walk on it, so I'm wondering what does strand woven bamboo flooring sound like? More like hardwood or more like laminate?

It depends on which "bamboo flooring" you're talking about.

3/8" laminate bamboo that clicks together and floats will have that "hollow" sounds; just like any other floating flooring.

3/4" engineered flooring is usually glued or nailed- more secure, more stable, no hollow sound.

Most laminate manufacturers require some type of underlayment- there's really cheap stuff and there's really good sound deadening type.

Thanks! That helps a lot. It makes sense that the floating floor would sound hollow, regardless of the material.

We have glued down strand bamboo in our kitchen and TV room, and it does not sound hollow.
