I know that this is the interior design and decorating subforum, but this is a question about my home's exterior design. Hopefully I can get some advice.
Here is a picture of my house, taken in 2002 by the county tax assessor. I know it's grainy and a bit out of focus, but the trees are very big now and this old picture shows the house better. The house was built in 2000 and it needs a fresh coat of paint.
It is all siding on the back and sides, but there are brick areas on the front. We are willing to paint the brick. Any ideas? Please give paint color names (e.g., Sherman Williams 'Grassy Savannah", instead of "beige") if possible.
How's this? I like the green house with the deep blue shutters. Notice that there is some red brick on the porch. I like that there are 4 colors used, if you count the white trim. I think this makes a nicer look. I do really like the red door with this scheme.
Agree ^ do not paint the brick. It will be nightmare of future upkeep.
Honestly my biggest gripe with home exterior design is that the fronts never match the sides. How hard is that? Just find a color that matches the brick or compliments it. That stark light color with the red brick is just a fail in my opinion. Not that I am picking on you, I see this 9 times out of 10. Just don't know what is going through these peoples minds when they are making the homes and offering the choices. It reminds me of the wizard of oz that only the front is important, "Pay no attention to the sides of the home!"
Ok this isn't perfect because I can't lift a *correct color* from the photo provided but this gives you the idea of the brick and siding matching. It makes the house looks much more cohesive and larger. It also shows that the part of the house next to the garage is now much more attention grabbing and needs more done with it.
Yup, good idea, Kayekaye. Although, I'd pull the darker red brick color from the brick facade. And after the red brick color is done, then the shutters would probably need to be white to match the eaves.
Hmmm. Some interesting ideas so far. I'd have to say that my least favorite idea is to paint the siding to match the brick. The brick is an ugly peachy-pink color, and I think it makes the house look dated. The tax assessor's picture doesn't do it justice.
I was very surprised to see Silbran's suggestion, as we seem to be leaning towards a muddy green color. We found this collection from Ralph Lauren that has a color called French Khaki that we like. It's on the bottom row.
We went out driving around neighborhoods this weekend and found 2 neighborhoods where a few houses had painted the brick. This one was our favorite. It has the muddy green color for the siding and brick. They've painted the trim beige, the doors brown, and the shutters seemed to be a slate gray/blue.
I'm also worried about the consequences of painting the brick. Seems like the brick is porous and needs to breathe.

oh, I thought the brick was reddish, thats why I suggested gold.
OK gold will not work.
I think the green family like others have stated and the picture you just posted will be nice
How about a different pic using a decent camera instead of this 13 year old blur. Kinda hard to help when you can't really tell what color is what on the brick or any other part of it. Is the front door black- looks like it from the blur. Are those shutters on the house? Hard to say when the pic is so bad.
