Ok, this may sound crazy but I've always wanted a really tall bed. Normally I go for the more modern look but most "modern" style beds are very low profile so I'm not sure that will work. I've also noticed most taller beds are 4 poster style, and I don't really like those. Yesterday I was out looking at mattresses because I'm just tired of the one I have, and while I was out shopping I was looking at the bedding displays. Those beds they use to display are always so tall and they have similar style headboards to what I have. I don't get it, so while the sales associate wasn't paying attention I pulled up the comforter, and noticed they use two Box springs! I never even thought to use two. Those are so cheap, I thought I'd buy one and try it out.

Has anyone else here used an extra box spring to make their bed taller? Is it stable?

I would think it would alter the look of the headboard a bit.

I have used those plastic boxes made to use the bed taller. Turns out I didn't like the tall bed and took them off after a year or so.

Yup, for our last bed, we had the plastic boxes that fit under the bed frame feet. Made it taller and the dog liked it, too, since she could fit under the bed easily and had her own den. When we got a new mattress set, though, it was much thicker than the one before and those didn't work anymore.

You can also just get some chunks of boards or bricks (with a bit of carpet under them) and put them under the bed feet to see if you like the higher bed. That also raised the headboard, too.

We also have a tall platform style bed. I made it myself, for a reason. We have a great pyrenees.
My wife flipped out the first couple of weeks we had him, as he could walk right onto the bed.
She didn't care for a small pony to be found lounging on the furniture.
Hence, the tall bed he can no longer get onto.
We both love it.

Does the pony fit under it? Can you imagine the dust bunnies generated by a Great Pyrenees? Angora dust bunnies!

I had a fairly tall bed. I'm short and I literally had to climb up.

It's my daughters bed now. Never do that again.

Oh yes hotcatz. You are not joking about the dust bunnies. It is unbelievable. I love the dog, sweetest I've ever had, but the hair he can generate in just one day is enough to knit a sweater.

ooh I knew a lady who did that, she knit stuff from her standard poodles. It was soft and looked great but, um just can't get into that...

They call it "cheingora" if it's yarn spun from dog hair. A friend made a shawl from her Great Pyrenee's hair. It turned out nice but she said it got a bit doggy smelling when it got wet. You'd think some sort of hair conditioner might fix that.

With a tall bed, though, for folks who want their pets on the bed, would there need to be a ladder or set of stairs? In some pet magazines, I've seen pet stairs for beds advertised. Although, the OP didn't mention a pet, so that may not be an issue with their taller bed.
