I hate heavy plates, I don't really care for the Corelle but I have been lucky to find light weight glass plates.

I like Corelle. It is light, tough, easy to clean, and compact.

My husband puts on airs about it being cheap, yet he likes gaudy drinking steins and other ugly trash from his college days...about 40 years ago. I told him no more of that outside of his home office in our new home. I put up with looking at that stuff for more than 15 years, on proud display in the kitchen of our old, otherwise pretty home.

The only disadvantage of Corelle relative to heavy stonewear is that it doesn't hold heat as well. Soup goes in thicker bowls.

My dishes are also by Corning, but they are Centura. It is a heavier weight than Corelle. I got the set in 1974, and am still using it. I think I have broken only one bowl in all those years. About 20 years later, Corning had changed the formula for Centura so that it could go in the microwave, but it still matched (although the soup bowls were different) so I enlarged by set to serve 12. But Centura was discontinued a number of years ago. I am thinking of getting a new set of dishes that are square rather than round, but haven't shopped yet. I admit that Corelle is attractive because it is light and tough, and lightness counts as you grow older. I haven't been terribly impressed by the patterns, but I haven't made any decision yet.

I use Corelle "Chutney" pattern and I love love LOVE it. So lightweight and I never get tired of it. Most of the other patterns I don't care for. I especially like that I can pick 4 plates out of the dishwasher at the same time because it's so light. I don't like the mugs but the bowls are ok.

I recently bought the plain white for everyday use because myi recently bought set because it is so lightweight and easy to place in dishwasher. We are retired and don't worry about aesthetics of everyday dishes.

Of course I love Corelle,, I work for the company that used to make it, Corning. Corning sold it off to World Kitchen back in 1989 but most people still associate it with Corning.

Are those the curved stoneware mugs, smaller on bottom than on top? I've only ever bought one Corelle set new, a plain white service for 8, and it had that kind of mug.

After using DHs grandmas white china set and having many things broken...we switched to corelle. We have broken 2 cups (they are porcelain) from the set but so far so good with 6 pets and 3 kids!
