My amazing father inlaw is making us gorgouse shutters for our front windows. Here's the delema. Color of shutters? I'm not sure why I'm having such a hard time with this? I'm usually very good with choosing what I want pretty quickly.
I'm leaning towards red. Like brick red, but then I started to think of blue like the picture attached. Would that look odd with the color of our home? Then, I was thinking just stain them. Then, stain them what shade? LOL Ugh, help? This is much harder then I thought!
No, just the left side. Upper and lower. Also, the lower center. So, just the 3 front windows.
The way the picture is angled you can't see one more window on the front porch. It's like the others, but up higher. I've decided not to put any on that one. I don't think it will look right the way the window is positioned.
I would have dark ashy brown shutters, BUT I would use that beautiful blue on the existing window trim. It would be a subtle jolt of color but retain the natural look of the contemporary home. By window trim I mean all of the narrow trim surrounding the windows.
On the other hand, I actually like the house as it is. Not sure shutters are appropriate for the style. Could you talk him into making a trellis instead?

Exactly! A contemporary like that should not be shuttered.
Shutters - if you do them - should be very wide.... not just thin slivers, with none on the triple window.
To be honest, I really don't think shutters are appropriate at all for your house style, which is a contemporary style. It would be impossible to mount them in a way for them to look like working shutters so, IMO, they would not look "right" on your house.

I'm afraid I agree with Pitt Chick. This is a contemporary house and shutters will not look right on it. However if that is what you must have, then I'd probably choose a forest green or grayed blue. Paint your front door a different color.

I concur. That style of house was not meant to have shutters.
I was not expecting your replies saying no shutters. Interesting...What are your reasons? Just because it has a contemporary look to it? Contemporary looks on the outside scream no shutters? Shutters you consider what? Obviously, I've never thought shutters should be attached to a certain style home.
My father in-law is a carpenter and he's already started. They'll be wide and I think it will look amazing. I feel like something is missing to the outside look of it.
