Man, I'm looking for a desk chair on Amazon, and pretty every single product has bad reviews, they even post pictures and an explanation of the problems is either the chair falling apart after months or 1 year. I can't find anything with only good reviews and long lasting.
I'm not looking a fancy company chair, so why would I be looking at expensive chairs?
I'm just regular guy who wants a decent chair for his average room
Because they're real desk chairs and that's what they cost. The chairs priced significantly lower than that either aren't functional or they don't last, or both.
Best bet is to buy a used good quality chair, second bet is to buy something that is attractive and never sit in it, that way it never wears out.
I'd leave "reliable" out of the sentence! Besides, who would recall 29million units because consumers DON'T USE the hardware that IS supplied?
IKEA is great if you are in college or starting out. One step above orange crates:>)
PO asked for quality and leather. Top of the line comes with a price tag. I would work my way through local office supply and furniture stores and start with test sitting what is out there. Is it a merely decorative office, is it a place he spends 10-12 hr/days in, are other options a possibility, ...? Why leather?
Any office/desk chair you buy under $300 is going to fall apart in a year or two. The cushions will lose their firmness, the leather will crack or flake off, etc.
I used to buy my office chairs in that range, and it was rare to get more than 2 years of use out of them (I work from home, so I sit in my chair for 8-10 hours a day, 5-6 days a week.)
I got 16 years out of my first one. It cost less than 5¢/hour.
Now have 5 years on my second one.
