I remember country and lots of oak, wallpaper, flower patterns, and shiny brass. A few late 80's time capsules have been listed in my area lately and there is so much wallpaper.
The Country look is what I remember about that time. I religiously read Country Living every month. Unfortunately, I had no budget to achieve that look.
Some people liked very traditional furniture, and some gravitated to the old oak stuff from the turn of the last century.
The country look is being recycled now. It is called Farmhouse, and it involves a lot of painted furniture and sometimes it looks a bit twee for my taste. I think it is a sort of mish mash of the country look and shabby chic.
What a time warp! I had no idea that all of these things came out of the 80's. Then I started remembering Laura Ashley and how I really wished I could have afforded all of those coordinating fabrics. The interesting thing is mentally trying to reconcile what was going on in our daily lives --economic, politics, innovations, culture-- with the way we wanted our homes to look at the time. Not sure I can figure that one out.
