I saw one of those silly articles which comes across newsfeed on FB. I found it "interesting".
Doilies on furniture- well of course
Matchy matchy furniture- yep
fuzzy toilet seat cover and matching mat- OK
clutter, especially lots of antiques and collections all over the place- I agree
Laz-E Boy recliners---WAIT A MINUTE!!!!
They have some really nice styles. And soon we are moving to a smaller home with only one main living area so we will be watching TV in a large great room instead of a den. We like to relax in our recliners to watch TV in the evenings and sometimes DH likes to nap in his.
Like I said it was a silly article but I wondered if professional decorators on here would agree that any kind of recliner dates a decor.

Well, I'm no professional decorator, but friends and family are constantly calling on me to help them with furnishings and finishes, and I do love it, so I definitely have opinions!
Doilies - I agree.
Matchy matchy furniture - I agree, though I can understand why some people feel more comfortable with that style.
Fuzzy toilet seat and matching rug - generally speaking yes - however, I HATE sitting down naked on a cold toilet seat, and many bathrooms are put together in a way that means you're likely to sit down on that cold, hard toilet seat when you're wet and buck naked. So...I would extend some grace on the toilet seat cover, as long as it's washed and replaced often. And as long as it's not fuzzy and matchy matchy.
Clutter - one man's junk is another man's treasure. I love accessorizing and minimalist decorating (which has been around for centuries, so it's nothing new in and of itself) often feels cold to me. And I like some antiques, especially if they have family history or an interesting story attached to them. The style I like the most is transitional - a mixture of old and new.
La-Z Boys - they ain't cho daddy's chairs anymore! Not my first choice when it comes to style, but in a room geared around comfort, they're hard to beat.
I hear gold and brass are making a comeback...but if it is in my house then it has to go...dated in my opinion. i started by getting rid of the entry door with dated gold inlaid glass.
You should have stopped with your first sentence. It's a silly article.
