Thank you~ Love yours as well, cool ideal with the tiles mine has the ridges as well, my mom had a beveled edge glass top made for it, so it's kinda thick and heavy as well and has held up all these years. It took forever to remove the canvas but was worth it, back then 50.00 was a lot money so my mom was worried what she find under the canvas once removed, what we found was beautiful wood in great condition.. It' sits a little to high for a coffee table, plus are sofa's recline yet works great as end table.
I totally missed the piece of glass. I did wonder how you managed to get it so smooth. Great idea.
Here is another piece that we picked up at an auction.
This pic was on the listing of the auction. The dog in the mirror is Bella. She (along with Lake & Pearl) belong to the auctioneer. Every auction's listings always have the dogs in some of the pics. Some of pretty funny. Here is one pic but it won't be up for long. http://www.nicholasauctions.com/welcome/h802.JPG Of course that is a beautiful desk she is sitting at.
Anyway, my desk/dresser, would you believe I only paid $25 for it. It wasn't really something that I was planning on buying but I couldn't pass that price up.
So, here's the thing, for me. I was a dealer for a long time, too. Hubby and I loved going to auctions and buying furniture that I thought was beautiful (he basically humored me). We had a crew of people working for us, so we could repair or refinish things easily. In the end, we realized that we were buying high and selling low. The market had fallen, so we gave it up.
After a major downsize, and move to a different climate, only a very few of those things remain, and I wish I could get back the thousands of dollars we spent. Antiques, for the most part, are about as valuable as kindling these days...UNLESS you love them, or have good memories connected to them.

Cat
Cat, is that the Nicholls Auctions in Virginia? If so, I've seen their listings. I usually go to Durham Auctions in Tappahannock; the auctioneer almost always has pics of his two adorable Scotties in the listings.
