I have seen the trend in jewelry too....for awhile, there was NO (yellow) gold jewelry, now it's all over the place. I even bought a watch in that new subdued gold....just looked new and fresh.
My new watch has both silver and gold. I'm good to go!
OMG. I thought the shiny brass would never comeback. I thought it was soon beautiful back in the 70's. Can't stand it now. The brushed is not so bad but trends come and go then we hate it.
My mom had her home dark olive green with a orange painted front door, green shaggy carpet that came with a plastic carpet rake to groom it. Now she practically gaged when I told her I was thinking of painting my house a green shade, totally different than the "70's" shade of green, still gaged a little.
As long as we don't follow Trumps decorating style, everything coated in shiny gold, yuk!
We should have held on to all those brass fixtures.

Midas touch: The traditionally inspired Artifacts Gentleman’s Bar faucet in polished brass by Kohler.
Warm metallics like gold and brass look lovely paired with updated color palettes. The home renovation matchmaking service at Sweeten expects the finishes to be favored on everything from lighting fixtures and cabinet pulls to bar stools and kitchen faucets."
We have managed to finally rid ourselves of the dated shiny brass fixtures in our house. I prefer the dirty brass or bronze look now. But my sink fixture are stainless or whatever the silver color is. That is what I prefer. Door handles are brass
Newer homes do get everything to match. I’ll never get there in this house, and that’s OK with me.
As in everything old is new again, but often slightly tweaked.
The satin or brushed brass seems to have really been catching on a lot over the past few years. Again though, it's not the shiny brass (although that is no longer the undesirable it was) - its the brushed less harsh looking.
I will be adding a few new side tables and accessories in the near future, and I like the sparkle of the burnished gold I see on table legs, etc. I know I have some old brass candlesticks around somewhere that I can polish up. Just a touch here and there, works for me.
