Just my opinion. Other than paint, I would not put $10,000 into minor kitchen upgrades in a house that I was only planning on staying in for three years.
But if the OP enjoys the upgrades for a few years and thinks that it was worth the cash, great! That's all that matters
The OP doesn't need to spend 10K especially since the cabinets don't need to be changed out. I won't even spend that on a full brand new kitchen
Refinish the cabinets, perhaps painting them white. Change the counter tops, add a nice complementary back splash. Remove the wallpaper and paint the whole kitchen a lighter, softer color. New appliances in white.
Several of the links below have good ideas for your cabinets. The pics could also give you some additional looks at backsplash, paint, floor and counter top ideas.

In my opinion, it really boils down to 1) what the OP paid for the place, and 2) whether or not the OP would enjoy the updates for several years. If the OP got a good deal on the house and the investment makes sense financially, and the OP would enjoy the updates as well for a few years, it makes sense to me.

I think the main reason for doing the update is so that it might attract more buyers. We don't have a great housing market and I feel like this modest update will help get people looking at it. It may not even cost $10k - that was just what I thought we would be willing to spend.
Things we will definitely do:
Replace countertop
Replace flooring (not included in original $10k as entire house needs new flooring)
Update lighting
Update faucet
Add backsplash
Remove wallpaper and paint room
Add knobs and handles to cabinets
What we'll do if budget allows:
Paint cabinets
Replace appliances

Sounds like a great plan! And I would replace appliances before painting cabinets if it came to a choice of one or the other. Just my two cents' worth.

You can definitely have a nice kitchen for 10k. I’m in the process of redoing mine and it cost me around the same. With flooring too tho. I went with American Woodmark cabinetry from Home Depot. It’s not what you think when you think of HD, cabinets are solid and well made, about 4K. We have 3 sides to our kitchen too. Appliances- about 2500- all stainless Maytag w counter depth fridge. Granite counter tops 2500
Don’t replace those cabinets that are just hanging above the peninsula. Take them down and let that be the last you see of them lol
I did white shaker cabinets. You can’t really go wrong with them.

Nice...I love to have nice looking things that don't cost a bundle. What size is your kitchen?
^, im in the minority, I have, and I like popcorn ceilings. I had mine sprayed back in 1989. But if I moved I would not have them done again, but if they were in the next place, it wouldnt bother me.
again, you stated you going to sell in 3-5 years, do you really hate the popcorn that much to undergo all that extra work and $$, just something to think about.
I cant wait to see pics of your kitchen and what you deceide in progress...
