So, I've talked to a few friends and they said that Lowe's and Home depot are not the places to buy interior paint? What are your thoughts? Whats the price point to not go over or under?
What's wrong with those places? The paint quality itself or the employee quality? For the former I may agree with you, but for the latter - Behr (at Home Depot) is consistently Consumer Reports' top-rated brand. They rate it far better than Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore.

I've used Behr's and Benjamin Moore. No contest at all. For interior walls, I have never found a paint I like as well as BM Regal Select.

I used to be a big Behr fan. What changed for me was that I couldn't get the paint to come out the color I wanted on the wall. I wasted a lot of money on samples. When I couldn't find the shade of sage green I was looking for, I went to the Sherwin Williams website. I downloaded their color snap app and you can take a picture of your room and "paint" it with the color. I found the perfect color and it went on the wall exactly as it looked in the picture. I've done the same a few times now and had good success.
BTW - I checked the paint cans I bought last year at the 40% off sale and it looks like it was in June last year.

That has nothing to do with "the paint"- that's all in the mind's eye!
And a computer/monitor driven color is rarely- very rarely an exact match.

Yeah, didn't make sense to me either. The Behr paint I bought went on well and covered well. Maybe they just suck at colors, LOL. I've been happy color-wise with everything I've painted with Sherwin Williams and not happy with several of the Behr colors. I don't know what to attribute that to but I'm happy with SW for now so I'll stick with it.

On one home improvement radio show they had a consumer reports specialist. . . .
She recommended Behr paint from Home Depot. She said it held up as well or better than more expensive paints. And we all know Consumer Reports put their products through all sorts of testing.
For years my husband and I swore by Sherwin Williams. About 6 years ago we noticed a big change. Even their expensive paints were more watered down and splattered more. Maybe it has something to do with the lower VOC's
Anyway we gave up on SW. I love Benjamin Moore for their furniture paint but don't want to pay their prices for interior paint.
For the past few years I have found Olympic One from Lowe's to cover well with one coat.
A few days ago we picked a bad color and our friend's were going to HD. We asked them to pick up a paint for us in the $40.00 gallon range. We gave them a Sherwin Williams color as we have a SW color fan deck and HD was able to use the SW's color for a Behr paint. The Behr paint went on very smooth, had good coverage and didn't splatter. For now I am sold on Behr although I don't like their ceiling paint.

I don't listen to CR. I don't believe they are unbiased.

Do you have some data to back up this assertion? They at least are transparent about their product testing and how they obtain the products to test, which is more than can be said about most websites and almost all product reviews by consumers.

No data...I should have said on my experience. Too many reviewers are paid for ratings today and too many companies like CR are backed by larger companies to test. I see that CR is linked to Amazon and that is not a good thing, IMO.
The Energy Guides are also not legit. I've tested all of my appliances to the numbers that are stated on the little yellow tags.
All I'm saying is I don't trust reviews...even real life ones from people you know. People will lie just because "they own it".
OK...back to paint. Scratch what I said about the Behr paint. I went and checked on the paint after it dried in daylight. The Behr did not cover fully in some spots. This was on a primed white wall. I'm going back to the Olympic One which had no bare spots.
