The recessed lighting should be your backup/background lighting really.

This house we bought has about 5000 cans. (exaggeration but you get the idea) They're fine, they're all on dimmers which is a nice touch.

But the previous owners completely neglected other forms of hardwired lighting. No chandeliers, no pendant lighting over the island, no undercabinet lighting in the kitchen, no sconces anywhere.

You have to be real careful or you end up with a spaceship lol

personally I hate ours and never use them.
Recessed lighting in a room does not restrict furniture placement. It does not affect it at all, if you have several lights evenly spaced in a room.

And yes, you still need task lighting ariund your furniture.

"Oh my"~ My dear mommy who's in her 80's just fell off her step ladder trying to reach an item on the top shelve of her closet! Thankful she didn't get badly hurt but she missed the last step coming down fell backwards and hit her head real good, left a good size lump and some bruising.... So as one get older, not being lazying, just smart to leave it to the younger ones..

Con: They're ugly and they put big holes in your ceilings.

To be fair, thermal inefficiency and lack of mobility after the fact are objective cons. "Ugliness" is totally subjective. I personally don't find them ugly.

My biggest is the heat, I cannot handle the warmth they generate, so I always end up truing them off working in the dark..

I didn't read where the OP asked that responses be limited to the objective. Do you know something I don't? And are you going to correct everyone who provided a subjective response? You'd best get busy ...

Since you like the look, go ahead, but plan on buying long life bulbs. Most of the cons are from people who don’t like them. You do like them, so there you go.

I like them in our house too.
