Hello,
I just purchased some room darkening drapes for my bedroom window. They are made of 100% polyester and 100% rayon (one is the fabric in the front and the other is the thick, "room darkening" layer in the back.)

There are a lot of deep wrinkles on the drapes (from being folded in the package).

So, what is the best way to get the wrinkles out of the drapes? The package says that the drapes can be "machine washed and tumbled dry".
Should I wash & dry the new drapes?
Should I try to iron them (yuck)?
Should I put them in the dryer with clean, damp towels to tumble the wrinkles out?
Or something else?

Thanks.

I wouldnt wash them yet. If it were me, I’d iron them on low heat. But I know you don’t like ironing....so you might try the dryer first to see if that does the trick. I’m certain ironing will work. Carefully try to steam any wrinkles that are stubborn.

If you wash them they will shrink. Iron and hang.

I wash and hang damp every year. After the wash I toss them a panel at a time into the dryer for 2 minutes and then hang. IF it is the crease where they were folded they may not come out but a full enough pale will generally hide the crease.

I'd definitely wash them according to the manufacturers instructions.

If for some reason you don't want to wash them gravity will get those wrinkles out in time but a steamer will them along.

I think I’d tumble dry on warm with a damp to wet bath towel.

If there is poly in the fabric, they should not shrink, but washing them will take off the fresh new look that the fabric has.

I’d tumble them for the least amount of time I can get by with, and then rehang immediately.

Take them to a local dry cleaner and ask them to press them - if you can afford it.

Otherwise, your best bet is to dust off your iron. I don't even know where mine is, so I get your comment - yuck - regarding having to iron them.

I go to even less trouble . Hang them on the rods right where you plan to use them, spritz them with water, especially the wrinkles, and let them dry. You can help gravity do its thing by attaching weight to the hems with clothespins.

That's what I did and it worked out great.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.
