So why wouldn't you just use a regular wired one, which has been proven over about 100 years to be as reliable as a stone axe? You know, not everything is improved by following the latest electronics fad. The standard DC doorbell with a little transformer just basically lasts forever.
Because if you are hard of hearing, and the doorbell is in the hallway, away from where you are sitting, then you can't hear it.
A wireless doorbell can be placed in a more "hearable" location, and you can get custom rings for it too.
My parents have one - they could never hear their wired doorbell, so this works.
With our current house, the doorbell never worked since closing. Our stupid selves forgot to test the doorbell and apparently the inspector we used didn't either.
For the time being, we purchased something similar to this.
The button was on our covered front porch (out of the elements, but sometimes in 0 degree temps) and sticky taped onto aluminum siding. We had no problems at all and the original battery lasted for over 2 years. We also have wireless internet in our house and there was no interference at all.
Well, if it's not your house, then I would just take a Sharpie and write "NO DOORBELL. PLEASE KNOCK" on an index card and tape it to the door. I sure wouldn't spend money, or installation/debugging time.
Why? If the OP wants a wireless doorbell, they can get one. They are cheap, work perfectly, and won't need any sort of permanent installation since the place is a rental.

When building our house, we forgot to wire for one. So we'll have to go wireless.
Thanks for al the good information. Our door bell conked out. I thought i would get the plug in kind (we are hopeless in repairing anything) but it was awful to get it to work. Skimpy instructions, and at 30 bucks was not cheap. Decided to get a handyman as we need couple of other chores to be done and fix the existing bell and got a new push button.
We've been using a wireless doorbell (not a camera, just a doorbell) for several years now with no problem. The chime is a plug-in type, and the doorbell button uses an A23 battery. It's something like this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-...7-03/311630478. We change the battery every 6-12 months.
Neither our wireless internet nor our New England winters have affected its performance.
I installed one for my mother years ago. Worked fine for a long time. Then the back door unit died. Couldn't find a replacement that was compatible. I would have done a wired unit for her but she didn't want me to drill the brick which would have been necessary.
