I had some off-white stoneware and I got tired of how heavy (and huge) all the pieces were. Replaced it with a Corelle with a simple blue-grey thin band on it. We tend to use the 8.5" salad plates more than the dinner plates because they are just the right size for our meals.
Kept my white stoneware but also bought Corelle for everyday....with happy daisies in a tasteful pattern. So much lighter....
I guess I’d prefer a beautiful interesting table, rather than how the food looks on the plate.
There are many ways to present a beautiful and interesting table. Patterned china/dishes are but one.
That said, I have 3 sets of dishes - my white "every day" dishes, my grandmother's China, patterned on the band only, and the traditional Christmas Spode which of course has the Christmas tree in the middle. Frankly, the last two are mostly used for display and rarely used to eat off (a few times a year). I just find the plain plates easier to work around and the food (to me) appears more appealing (watch cooking shows - the plating is invariably on a plain background).
It's a personal preference, not a "dis" on anyone else.

I tried finding my dream dishes online to post a link but can't remember the brand. They are a solid white, embossed pattern, but with mix and match designs, so that each place setting ends up having several different designs. They were very lovely, and very expensive.
What I actually have now is this - a slightly different set though as mine came with soup plates.
I needed service for 12, and I needed it to store in the smallest amount of space possible, so Corelle was definitely the best option for that.
They have different patterns now that I like even better, so as I buy replacement pieces as things break, I'll start mixing in other patterns. I love mix and match and they have several black and white options so I should be able to keep that going pretty much indefinitely. Unless I move someplace with a lot more kitchen storage, I will still have the limitations of needing a compact set of dishes but still have service for 12 (I entertain 8-12 people several times a year).
I love Franciscan Autumn! It's probably not as sought after as Starburst, but it's pretty popular among mid-century dinnerware collectors.

Isn't Fransican Autumn so perfect? This is our dream china set. We always have our eyes out for it. When the last kid is past the uncareful stage we plan on buying it regardless of price.
My china does have a stamp but no one seems to be able to place it. I started a thread about it on this board earlier today. If you have any hints on finding anything to place/date it I would be ecstatic!
This what I want to replace my old Pfaltzgraff with. My set is roughly twenty years old, and has NOT aged well. It has discolored underneath the glaze, and I’m beyond irritated with it.
I do have the fine china of my dreams, I have a vintage pattern white Wedgwood set that I use at every opportunity. It is bone china, pretty tough and creamy white. For years I collected various white serving pieces. Only 4 years ago was I able to buy a set with plates.
I probably won’t replace my everyday set. I have too many pieces. Sigh. But I love that Cornishware stuff.
In the late 1980s I got this, and I still enjoy it. The pattern has faded on the dinner plates and it is susceptible to black marks from stainless flatware but those can be removed with stove top cleaner. Otherwise it is virtually indestructable. The original ads showed a cup being used to hammer a nail into a board.
I am pretty minimalist when it comes to everyday dishes. We had a Dansk set from our wedding that got fairly beat up over 10 years or so. About 5 years ago, we replaced them with these and I love them
If I were to go with color, I would pick a blue and white as we accent a lot with that and I have a big dark blue range that is the focal point of my kitchen.
I do have formal stuff, but it's just taking up space mostly. It's pretty (white with a platinum band) and I'll get it out for special occasions but it's really rare. My mom also handed me down her Lenox Holiday dishes and I use those just on Christmas day.
I'm happy with what I have. I started out with a set that I bought in a second hand shop because I thought they were pretty. But they chipped and broke. One day a plate broke and I swore I would never again have breakable dishes for every day use. That's the day I bought Corelle--and I have added to it and use it to this day.
I like Blue Willow too. (I like the color blue.) And I love the OP's pattern with the bird.
