We went with natural red oak with our remodel a few years ago...I built the cabinets from standing tree to finish.
But my guess is painted of some variety will be the 'in' thing forever simply due to much lower cost......MDF being a whole lot cheaper than quartersawn red oak.

Oak my favorite. I had oak quite similar to yours in my former home and I miss them. I have maple here, still the natural wood but there is something I love about the graininess of oak. And, I am not known to go with the trends, I go with what I love.

I hate it when people paint nice oak cabinets. HGTV says oak is out.
I don't care about trends. I'm not about to change my original 1959 solid wood kitchen cabinets that are painted white and still have their original chrome hardware. They're cute, quaint, and appropriate for the house.
I get what I like,
and what I want to look at,
and create my own "look"
i have black bead board,
it's taste specific,
its my apartment,
and I'm living there,
and I'm never selling.
and I'm not interested in what HGTV tells me the trend is.
I tried to post a picture of it, but it says I have posted it on another thread and wouldnt let me.
