I've seen disparate pieces hung together in different ways.
Sometimes the same or similar frames
Sometimes just aligning the tops of the frames when hanging them in a row
often, like in threes, the artwork is hung one on top, two on the bottom. You do have to play with this and I like the suggestion of simply putting them on the floor and seeing how they look best together.
sometimes, a very large wall filled with artwork. A friend of mine cut out brown paper in the shapes of her artwork, then used painter's tape to experiment with placement of the different sizes.

I found this on the web recently .....good luck!

A common mistake is trying to cram too much into a limited space. More isn't necessarily better, sometimes its just MORE. Less can be more. You don't need to hit a viewer on the head with a skillet to make your stylistic point.

And you don’t have to hang something on every wall. Your eye needs a place to rest.

I wanted a fancy iron gate to hang on my living room wall, but couldn't find one I could afford. I got an ornate wicker headboard, cut off the legs, painted it black, and hung it over the couch. I loved it.
I love stuff like that!

I get it, and perhaps I do that with my beautiful Christie Repasy rose pictures but I love them and hardly have anyone over anymore1
