Your cabinets aren't painted, Penn Quaker!

Looks really nice, though. You did great!

My first choice would be to replace everything but I've got too many other projects that are much more needed.

I just purchased a new Kitchens and Bath periodical at Lowes and in it almost 1/2 of the kitchen cabinets are painted -- even in the rooms that are mostly wood cabinets, they are mixing in some painted pieces....

For me, it's not about necessarily being "in style" but I'm having to sell myself on the idea. Having seen what's underneath, I have no choice!

You all did a awesome job painting your laminate cabinets. We are thinking of going this route ourselves. In fact I found this forum thread because I was searching the net for answers on whether it could be done right or not.

From the photos you have posted it looks wonderful. Can you tell me what products and steps you used to do this? What did it cost? our kitchen is small and the cabinets are in good shape but the doors are ugly and outdated as well as the laminate oak look for the sides and underneath.

Just how hard is this? I would imagine quite a project when you have to do the sides and the underneath part.

How long did it take you to finish yours and did you do it yourself? or from a pro?

Thanks

I just painted the new unfinished oak cabinets we bought from Lowes. They look great, but it sure was a job! 3 coats of white latex enamel paint with 2 rounds of sanding between each coat and then a final clear coat on top for shine. I highly recommend using foam rollers for the job, I always hated those things but for cabinets they eliminated brush strokes and clumps; the only part I used a brush for were the beveled detail and the final clear coat.
