This furniture is made in my state - NC and yes, it is truly an American product.

Almost all furniture is imported - even upholstered items that say MADE IN USA may actually have frames that are imported.

I purchased Vaughn Bassett bedroom furniture just about a year ago. I bought the Grandma's Keepsakes Collection. It is solid oak. The pieces purchased were the Broomhandle Bed, Night Table, Uncle John's Dresser and Housekeeper's Chest. I am very happy with the quality. Everything is very sturdy, well made and for the price, I don't think I could have done any better.

I too am looking into Vaughn Bassett Furniture. I was considering Bassett as well and a friend of mine told me to look into Vaughn Bassett as well which apparently is a spin off the original company. Did you find the build quality to be as nice as Ethan Allen, Bassett or equivelent companies?

Just make sure it is not one of their collections made in China. Most is made in NC but not all. A test (when no one is looking)...scratch your nail on the edge of a dresser or nightstand..if it is white underneath and not wood then it is Chinese junk! In other words a painted or thin veneer that looks like wood but is far from it.

If you scratch that piece and get caught they will make you buy it. Just look on the back side for those dreaded words "Made in China". Some items China attempts to export without any stamp claiming is country of origin. I guess they have a guilty conscience. Under federal law, under the new Patriot Act all countries MUST stamp their country of origin clearly on each product as well as the shipping container.

This law even pertains to the manufacturer of origin shipping within our own country. In other words if you want to buy 1000 wigits from ABC company and you ask them to not stamp their company logo on it because you want to stamp your own, which is called branding.....you can not do it.
