I just had some major water damage from a pipe leak in my second floor master bedroom which caused nearly $20,000 in damages. Luckily USAA insurance is covering it all and now I'd like to upgrade the old burgandy rug and remodel cabinets and flooring in my kitchen area.
I can do the carpet replacement throughout the house immediately, but I'm not sure if I should wait until after my kitchen is remodeled first (about three month wait).
It's probably not a big issue, but I'd hate to have contractors trudging across the new carpet and getting it dirty again. Anyone else with a previous issue that's similar?
I would probably have the kitchen done first...UNLESS a lot of water got under the carpet, b/c then that could lead to mold and you don't want that growing under there while you wait...
I agree with twinmma ... if you can wait on the carpet, do so (you're right remelifer to have concerns about all the dust and dirt flying around during a kitchen remodel.)
Another thought - depending on what's under your carpets (hardwood, subfloor, cement), if the carpets have a lot of moisture under them, twinmma is right about mold. Perhaps you could get the carpets torn out and live with what's underneath until the kitchen is done, and then put new carpet down. The downside to that is having to move furniture twice.
