You can not paint cabinets. Well you can but that dont make it right. Hell people paint glass, plastic, asphalt roofs and even their grass on the front lawn.
I bet the farm your cabinets are particle board with a melamine coating. You can not paint it. But you will. If they are plywood you can paint over whatever surface is on there but it will look real cheesy and kinda aweful.
Black cabinets? I can honestly say in 30 years and more then 6000 kitchens behind me I have never ever seen black cabinets. I suspect I never will.
Well my kind Sir, I am in the midst of planning a kitchen, and I am absolutely getting the "black heirloom" vintage (distressed) cabinetry for my kitchen..
so feel free to come to Brooklyn, I will be your first.
my only dilema now is I am not sure as to what type of handels I want?????
oh wait, to answer the question though. I would absolutely NOT paint the insides of the cabinets black. I think the insides would be better white, it will look brighter, and cleaner.
I have every closet in my house painted white with the white wire shelves. The closets have a very clean and bright look to them. It is also good because when I paint the rooms, I don't have to paint the closets to match the wall colors, thus saving me time and trouble for having to empty the closets each time I paint. That is a pain in the ass.
Oh, and I am a paint nut, I paint every 3 years, maybe less..............
Well, even though DesertSun hasn't sold black cabinets nor recommends them, along with kshe59girl (and i say this with love) , everyone is entitled to their opinions.
Both of these posters have contributed many helpful hints about home stuff for us folk, here in ths forum, and we appreciate it.
Now, getting back to MY black heirloom cabinets, what type of drawer handels do I get? i have brushed oiled bronze now on my cabinets, but I am thinking they will be too dark and will not look to good.
The look I am going for is old rustic, as i have a real exposed brick wall and 7 inch plank medium wood floor.........

How about pewter?
If you like old and rustic, check out Van Dykes Restorers.
Yikes!!!!! An old thread has been brought back to life and all these posters replying to a post I made long ago.
I'll still stand by my words because I speak not by opinion but by popular consumer activity and raw numbers from the trade journals that we depend on to track trends. If something is of my opinion I am sure to say so.
That said, 2010 was a banner year for not quite black cabinets but very dark colors called by names such as kona and charcoal. Put those colors on the shaker style door and you have the best selling product in all of north America for 2010. Funny how things change huh. Oh and white is still stone dead....except to those few who like it if course. All 2% of you.
While shaker doors are very quickly losing appeal after a very short run, very dark, almost black, is still very in but losing ground to that ol dark cherry again which will never die.
That contemporary look which I never liked, never had a huge following in our part of the world but it has lost more ground to the partial overlay traditional style doors. And that's fine by me. Strangely many contemporary door styles are just plain slab doors. I am seeing consumers buying partial overlay slab doors or 3/4 overlay slab doors on framed cabinets. Very strange.
Nightcrawler, could you possibly post a pix of the cabinets, and the kitchen if at all possible?
I'm thinking aged pewter, too.......
Thank you, I haven't gotten the cabinets as of yet. I am gearing for this fall. I want to have every detail deceided before the purchase, so I don't end up saying, oh, I shoulda this...or I wish I woulda that.....I want to have it as near perfect as I possible can.
So I am also leaning towards a creamy colored granite with just a few hints of black and rust colored veins....I thought rust, burnt orange, so it would make the counters look aged as if they had rust stains on them...does that make any sense??? for that rustic look...
I do however really like the black distressed heirloom, it seems to fit into they type of look that I want to achieve. Another reason was I am leaning towards black, is to me black never goes out of style, its just black.....I can also change anything else in the kitchen, and black always matches.
I also do not want to do what the "trend" is today, I want something that I want to look at.....to me, "trendy" while is cool today, is and always will be dated in a few years.....then you hear that saying: Oh, that is 2010's LOL......kinda like the glass tiled back splash, pretty today, 3 years from now it will be dated.....
and being a designer Kshe95, you know what I mean, I'm sure...
and humm, the peweter sounds like it can go, I will have to look into that

I always try to encourage my clients to do a timeless, classic look, no matter what style they are trying to achieve.
Its always so much easier to update that kind of look with accessories, rather than having to tear out and update.
I would lean towards the creamy granite rather than the rusty one, as that is going to limit your choice of color palette.
From everything you have said about your kitchen, I would think tile that looks like cut stone would fit right in.
The pewter handles will pop beautifully against the black....thats the way I would go!
