Something like this would be nice, or a roler shade. Have you searched on Rate my Space for ideas?

If I were the one designing the room, I would do something like this;
Google Image Result for http://www.rcdraperies.com/nss-folder/gallery/BALLOON%20SHADE.JPG

Its simple, elegant, and works beautifully with the Tuscan, Old World style.

Thank you both for your suggestions. One of my friends (who is also an interior designer) suggested installing a balloon shade as well. However, since it is a bay window looking out on the deck and swimming pool, I think a balloon shade will block the view

If its done as a valance, and taken to the ceiling, it would look great, it would only take up 18 to 20 inches.
If youre still doubtful, take a strip of paper 20 inches wide, attach it with painters tape above the window, and live with it a couple of days, see what you think!

Hi,

Thank you. I think I will just go with the valance. Do you have any suggestion/idea for valances? Thanks,

Since you're going with that wonderfully creative design..... which by the way I applaud you on...cuz it's FABULOUS!! LOL Okay, anyway, have you considered roll up matchstick blinds? ... they ones that actually have the appearance of a built-on valance? You could always do a colorful deep brick red, small swag above them?

Another take on it. In my imagination, I kind of feel like I'm on the outside of a building, looking in....when I look at your faux finishing.....like you'd be sitting at an outdoor cafe when you were in the dining room. Going with that feeling, I almost see "faux" awnings for your window toppings. Again, I applaud your creativity. It's wonderful that you have the courage to do something like that in your home!

You know, upon second and third looks at your faux finishing though, and it could just be my monitor... could you maybe just add a bit more gold glaze here and there to the existing stucco on the walls? It looks like it's more cream than antique stucco. Not criticizing, cuz I think it's fabulous....just making an observation. A tiny bit more gold glaze, here and there would really tie it in to your tiled floor color.

Hi, thank you for your response. Actually I took this picture when the faux was not completed. My faux finisher did apply a layer of gold glaze to the entire faux to give it an 'older look', just as you can see in the area around the brick.

I like your idea of adding faux awnings to the windows. I was also thinking of valance or canopy. Do you think what color will work best? Thanks again

this is a kingston valance, hate the fabric, but like the idea.
I would not do this in a stripe, however a damask would be gorgeous!
