And, in regards to what we're discussing, I know that most design schools don't teach advanced color theory. The elite design programs included.

I don't have a design degree, I'm naturally talented. My first post college job was in the design/new home construction industry, however, it was temporary and didn't know that I would have such a passion for interior design until I had that job. I went to graduate school for a masters in curriculum and instruction and my teaching credential, but I'm currently a SAHD. I've thought about going to design school once our twins start pre-school, but my family comes first and I think teaching is my true calling. Design is a hobby.

Also, I think highly of designers. I know that there is more to it than picking out paint and fabric.
Here in the furniture capital, I meet ALOT of "designers",some degreed, some not. Some of the most talented have no degree in interior design. One in particular has a degree in social work but designed many of her friends homes then a builder was impressed by her style so she did his million dollar showcase homes and she has a very successful career as well as doing alot of the showrooms in High point during the International Furniture market, high end stuff. Another was a realtor and he had s flair for design and charges $150/hr for his time although I am not into contemporary which he does most. Many use him as well. A friend of mine was president of the ASID local chapter here for years. She is stuck on jewel tones and can't think outside of the box to save her life! I can think of many situations where friends have excelled in areas that they were not degreed for. Just my two cents!

I know many as well, that have no degree, that are VERY talented.
Since I come from a family where design runs in the family, I was nurtured at the first sign of talent, at a very early age.
I custom designed my Barbie house at the age of 7, lol!
I was very fortunate to get my education, I try to share it, some take the advice, some dont.
I look at it this way, if you take it, you just saved yourself hundreds of dollars, if you dont, well...........
Just my 2 cents here..........
