I have a Minka that has been operating almost nonstop since 2001 and three Hunter's which I installed in 2005.
They are all perfectly silent, don't wobble, and clean up easily to look like new.
The house I purchased previously had some cheap low end fans which I was glad to get rid of.
With high ceilings, I use the fans in the winter on reverse, to circulate the warm air that otherwise would gather near the ceiling, and it causes it to flow downward, warming the walls a bit. Makes it more comfortable without having to waste oil.
I'd like to find some nice modern designs that are not available at Home Depot or Lowes. Some with a more streamlined look. Where can these be found other than on line?
Casablanca fans are so overpriced it's ridiculous ! They are no more reliable than any other brand. Hunter's are good and for cheap Hampton Bay is fine. I installed over 200 fans in my working days of all brands and never had a problem with any of them. I prefer 5/6 blades.
I like Hunter also, and they have a lifetime warrantee. They will replace any defective fan with a similar model. We moved into a house in 2010, and one of the Hunter fans was making a noise. The same model was not available, but they sent us a voucher for a comparable model at no charge. We had to send them the old motor.
I have never had a problem with Hampton Bay or Harbor Breeze, they both are just as good as any Hunter sold nowadays. Now the brands sold at Walmart are another story, every one of those I have bought has been noisy and wobbly.
Actually my one Hunter fan is my least favorite one in the house, it just turns too slow... it has to be on high to provide any airflow.
Hunter has a lifetime guarantee and they are good about honoring it. We have had a 25 year old Hunter fan fail. The same model was not available, but they gave us a voucher for a free replacement of a fan of the same size. We were not the original buyers, so had no paperwork on it.
I believe any good lighting store will have fans also.
