Maybe self adhesive tint that you get at Lowes? you just cut it, peel it and place it on the windows. Or you can do what my husband and I do with our basement windows that look like this-we stuff pillows in them when we want to take a nap, lol!
Good luck!

Why didn't you get the same blinds up there too?

I think also stained glass would look nice, but since you want shade, maybe not.

If you just want them covered for when the sun is too much, just make a cardboard template and cover the cardboard with a covering of your choice, be it fabric or wallpaper or vinyl, or if not card board it could be thin wood, but that might be heavier ,then fit it into the window, then when you want the sun, just pop them out. I hope I explained that correctly.

It will be most attractive to hang curtains from the ceiling to the floor. In the winter, you can keep them open. In the summer, you can close them when you want to take a nap.

They're called transom windows. In this particular case, unattached.
And I'm with Hopes. Judging by the windows I'd say you have a 10' ceilings. You'd need 108" panels to cover both and you should have enough for a slight break at the floor (if you like that look).

I agree with K'ledgeBldr and Hopes - consider putting the curtain rod near the ceiling, on sliding ring clips, to easily open and close for those nap times!
Ikea sells extra long curtains that are 120" long that you can hem yourself with iron-on tape.
Or, if you sew a bit, you could buy standard size curtains and sew a contrasting band at the bottom to add to the length.
Like these from Ballard Designs

But these are $50 a piece and you would need quite a few. (Hence the sewing suggestion!) Of course maybe not everyone is as cheap as myself.

Thank you all for the ideas.. i liked the idea of putting a cardbord template.. and curtains too, which earlier i was only thinking of putting at the bottom windows.. just another question - when i go for curtains, will i need 3 seperate curtain rods or do we get a single rod that can cover all 3 windows?? thks..

Three separate rods will be cheaper than buying one custom rod.

Extend the center rod wider than the window since there's more wall on each side of the window on that wall.

You could do this:

Direct Window Blinds & Shades - Horizontal Sheer Shades
But long drapes to darken the room would probably be the best solution

You can buy rod attachments that will bend around the corners of your window. You can then buy 3 rods, attach them but only have two "ends"

This is in my dining room. You buy something like this : .
