looking for some help in choosing our basement color.
I know we don't want anything dark, we want to keep it light.

The basement is a walkout which gets plenty of light.
We we're doing a white ceiling, something like a light brazilian cherry laminate floor.

the colors i have in mind are:

off white
light tan
light blue
light/off orange

i'm going to HD right now to look at colors.

any suggestions?

My Dad just redid their basement and used a sage green on the walls (Benjamin Moore's Dry Sage to be exact). It is VERY cozy down there. They have a white ceiling--actually they are decorative ceiling tiles that are white--and white trim. It is not at all dark. The dry sage would look amazing with Brazilian Cherry floors.

Brazilian Cherry laminates will usually have a few light tones in the mix. Get a piece of the laminate, and try to match your wall color to the lightest tone of the flooring. If yours has no light tones, look for a "maple-ish" tone with a little bit of flesh color in it. Sort of a "Caucasian Pink".

We painted a room Valspar 4007-3B Shark Loop. Valspar 4007-3B Shark Loop Match | Paint Colors | Myperfectcolor

The image on the monitor doesn't do the color justice though. You should definitely get a paint chip to see what it really looks like.

Maybe but it isn't the color in real life. It is a pretty sage green. This isn't the best picture but this is the same color:

Top colors for basements
Top Selling Basement Colors | Myperfectcolor.com

Edit: I actually have Powell Buff in my entry way and LOVE it. I think it would look lovely in a basement. Would do it in mine if I didn't already have tons of it in the two story foyer. Warm yet light.

Consider going to Sherwin Williams. You can buy one of their giant paint fan decks for only $10.
Even if you don't go with their paint, it will give you a good idea of what different colors look like down in the basement. Home Depot will do color matches, too. (Although I think the SW is worth the extra $10 to only have to do one coat instead of 2-3).
Whatever you do - please pick the colors while you are IN the room. Get the little sample pots. They're under $5 and SO worth it.
I've learned this the hard way in my dark, but lovely 1970's house we just bought. The colors look 5 shades darker in my house than they did in the store! I've had to repaint it twice but finally settled on a silver sage.
