Acura TL SH - AWD would seem like a decent and challenging platform to modify from.

Unlike its ordinary fwd counterpart wouldn't it fair better with more power.??

I was just wondering what your opinion of this would be.

What is your goal? Do you already own this car? If not, why did you pick this car out of all the options?

More power is always better.

The car is a huge failure with absolutely no aftermarket support. You can find springs, wheels and of course the usual paint the beak spray kit.

Terrible platform, go with a 335 if you want to tune something.

Now hypothetically, if Acura wasn't completely lame and had some balls to have some real power (seriously 305hp is their top power car in 2012???) a 400-500hp car with SH-AWD would be incredible but why wait? Porsche, Audi, BMW etc all now offer trick AWD systems with 500hp cars.

Totally not worth it. The only way to add any serious power is going to be with forced induction, but that is going to be a nightmare on that engine with the higher compression ratios. There is very little out there for tuning as no one has really hacked the stock PCM to get in there. Everything is done using standalones tunes which adds a ton of cost and complexity. Then you run into issues where any meaningful power bump basically means that you are exceeding what the stock fuel system can do, so you end up needing injectors, fuel pumps, etc.

There are some people out there who have done it on the older models and there is a supercharger kit that gives a decent boost, but for the most part, the cost and complexity of doing it means you are better off just looking at one of the far more easily tunable cars from BMW or Audi or even Infiniti to use as a base.

Apples and Oranges. Acura RL is $50k. Audi is $130k, Porsche $110-140k, BMW $90k, Mercedes $95k. Options on all those will drive the price up. I really doubt anyone is cross-shopping the RL with a ML63 or X5M, let alone a A8 W12 or Panamera Turbo. In the Internet where everyone makes $500,000 a year those might be alternatives.

But in general I agree... waste of money. The RL isn't a performance car... You can pick one up for less than you could a similar year Lexus GS.

Those brands offer what Acura SHOULD if they were a real luxury brand. They don't, never will. Sh-AWD is a great system that does not get an opportunity to shine since its in a RL that is slow, a TL that is slightly faster and 3 SUVs. Not exactly a brilliant way to show how superior your AWD system is. Its not like we see Acuras with SH-AWD at SCCA or at track events. Its a waste.

Back in the 1990s you could modify an Acura to do some really cool things.
