Car: 2000 Honda Accord with 100K miles

Problem: starts and dies within seconds because RPM drops to zero. There is no CEL.

To keep the engine running:

After starting the car, I immediately step on the gas a little to maintain adequate RPM.

At the same time I apply brakes and put the car in gear and put it back in park.

At this time RPM is where it's supposed to be and car doesn't stall.

This is only a bandaid solution. I need some help to fix this for good. What is wrong? Please offer suggestions. Thanks.
