All of those ads have disclaimers on them. In fact, it's gotten so bad that the recent BMW ads that show the car simply driving have disclaimers about how they are professional drivers on closed course and do not attempt. Do not attempt what, exactly? Driving your car down the highway?
All to appease people like the OP who get outraged that an ad might use hyperbole to sell a product.
i mean really, if this madness doesnt stop people are going to think they can just do stupid things and then all they will have to do is call a state farm agent out of thin air!!!
I was thinking about the flying Ford focus. I didn't see in the fine print where it said the car wouldn't fly... LOL
Maybe I am over reacting but when I see a bunch of idiots on the roads everyday driving like lunatics I don't think we need a commercial promoting bad aggressive driving.
I love cars and the flashy ads of them zipping through the desert or winding mountain roads but not on crowded city streets like in these Acura ads all with the driver clearly not even watching the road.
I own a replica of a 65 427 Cobra and I don't drive it around like the race car it is.
We have enough people texting and doing all kinds of stupid things while they drive that lead to accidents. We don't need more.
Seriously in the world we live in today I could see a resulting crash then a lawyer getting in on it stating that the driver was emulating the driving style he saw on the ad and the poor guy he crashed into left with nothing but the pain.
Be responsible. Use Common Sense.... Oh yeah there is not a whole lot of that left in this country anymore.
I have yet to see the commercial, sounds funny which most likely, Acura was trying do a comedy commercial instead of serious and or patriotic. I see your point though, people do imitate what they see displayed in the media too much; no one thinks with their minds anymore, and most people are gullible and for the most part dumb. Hopefully though Acura protected the company by stating in even their small print to not try this stunt at home, as they usually do in commercials. You are right. People do not use common sense anymore; it's no longer common and it's just, "Oh cool, they're doing that on tv, I must be able to do that too!" And they go and kill themselves, or someone else, or massacre a whole bunch of people.
I'm just trying to think of all the automotive stunts I've seen pulled in recent commercials. Let's see. There was:
- A Tundra towing a spaceship (which, is WAY over its actual towing capacity, so a huge 'NO NO')
- An old Dodge pick-up being towed out of a mudhole by two horses led by a guy with an enormous erection, if I understand the commercial correctly
- COUNTLESS vehicles sliding sideways through some desolate strip of desert
- A Mustang somehow getting painted multiple times whilst driving down a busy metropolitan street (all those toxic fumes in the air!!!)
- An Infiniti driver causing an avalanche that eventually takes out a BMW (actually, I'm OK with one less obnoxious Beemer driver being on the road)
- The aforementioned FIAT commercial. (Like any Italian car could survive 5 minutes even being PARKED next to salt water, let alone being immersed in it) - Giant rodents driving a Kia Soul. I don't have a problem with rodents driving, but they're listening to music at unsafe levels.
- A dog able to understand the word 'neuter' and jumping out of the car. Imagine if it was moving. Oh my!
- An extremely hot girl riding her tricked out Ducati from coast-to-coast at breakneck speeds, all to promote talking on a cell phone.
Number of times I've seen any of this in person? Zero.

Have to say, every time I see a Kia Soul and there isn't a hamster behind the wheel, I'm disappointed.
Uh oh. Saw a commercial last night for the new Ford Fusion hybrid where it drives off a cliff and seemingly flies through the air. My advance condolences to the friends and family of any person who decides to attempt this.
