They should have made it more of a wagon, something like the Venza, instead of the fastback style. It would have fit well between the car-like but smallish CR-V and the large but truck-like Pilot. If the Venza is any indication, it probably would have been a hit.
I can see Honda not wanting to compete in their own showroom with the CR-V though.
The CR-V and the Ford Escape are currently in a back-and-forth ratings battle for best selling compact SUV. Maybe they didn't want something that sold too well. If that's the case, Honda has succeeded admirably.
