I've been 138 (maybe 140, but was scared to look down too long).

Was a '97 Z28 on I485 (loop around Charlotte)

Only thing I had done to it was Borla exhaust.

ive hit those speeds+ in a turbo mitsu ( 3000gt vr4 ); matching what magazine tests reached as well. I felt fairly "comfortable" at speed in that vehicle, as it was new and for what it's worth built for performance ( ie speed rated tires, aero package, etc ).
Now 'in the day' we pegged speedos all the time on back roads in rural WI; most of those were around 120, my 70 1/2 Camaro showed 140. I'll be first to admit that with tire changes, etc the indicated speed would not be truly accurate so it meant nothing more then bragging rights. Not to mention the rush/fear one gets driving an old car at that speed... those tires and suspensions in the 70's/80's were NOT tight and up to handling that sort of driving. Good thing a deer didn't run out, like those brakes would have stopped me at all....
I'm just thankful someone watched over me, so my stupidity didn't cause anything life changing.
As for import vs muscle; I stay outta that one. Ive grown up in muscle and hi-po Chevy rides; and have spent time in tuners now. Both can be built well, and both would earn my thumbs up.

I don't get bent out of shape at all about the ricer vs. v8 stuff and 1/4 mile speeds.

I know for a fact that there are ricers out there that can beat me in a 1/4 mile...I didn't buy my car to race...especially not over some meaningless distance. If by some amazing stroke of fate I actually had to outrun a ricer to save my life I'd merely find the nearest interstate crank it up to 140 and then keep adding 10mph until his car faded or lost control. lol.

Anyone seen one of those GTR's in person yet? I'm hoping too but I think they are concentrated on the coasts where around the middle part of the country where I'm at you see more Z06's or ZR-1's etc.

I saw one on the freeway the other night and almost drove off the road looking at it. It looks very "mighty" at cruising speeds.

Reminds me of a story a year or two ago. Guy in .... arizona? .... was clocked with a remote sensor going something like 143 with a hyundai sonata. The guy claimed the ticket was wrong because some car mag had said the top speed of the sonata was 125 or 130. Don't remember how it worked out.

Yeah, personally...I think my Z06 looks a whole lot better...but the track times for the GTR are awesome. Just depends what you like. (Either way, you aren't spending the kind of coin the 911 costs for comparable performance though)

i'm gonna guess that's an oops. pretty much all 4-bangers are inline. of course, V-4s does exist, but the only ones i know of currently in production are in motorcycles like my Honda VFR.
