I have a patio which faces west. The previous owner had canvas, grommeted drapes on each corner of the patio which looked nice (and did not have mildew), so when I moved here I made some out of painter's canvas dropcloths, which look the same. So far so good.
Today, I noticed that they are forming mildew. They get rained on almost every day, but they also bake in the blistering sun every day, so it isn't as though they are always damp.
What do you think I can do about this? I know I could wash them in bleach and get rid of the mildew, but what's the point if it will just form again?
Is there anything that they can be treated with that will keep the mildew from forming?
