That's fine with me! We all have different tastes. I personally like it when the appliance "disappears", especially in an open kitchen.

We asked our realtor and she said she is seeing basically what you see on this thread...

Some folks love stainless, others hate it

She recommended not going to the expense of putting it in - but we were not looking to replace appliances for ourselves, just wondering if it would be worth it for resale value.

Personally I'm in the hate it camp when it comes to stainless.

Our realtors opinion is that it does seem to be getting less popular.

Have you seen the new oil rubbed bronze appliances by Jennair?
That's what I would pick for my kitchen!

I just looked them up on the Jenn Air website--there they look like the 60's brown appliances . I would assume they look better in person. I will have to keep an eye out for those.

I looked at the oil-rubbed bronze on the website too. Hopefully in person they look better - probably not getting the depth of color on my monitor. I'm for anything just about other than white - might be interesting.

The house we almost bought had oil-rubbed bronze faucets (and one sink) in all the bathrooms, and I thought they looked very attractive indeed.
But wow, appliances? Hmm, I guess I'd have to see it up close and personal.

This shows how much I know about trends... In 2000 when I was designing my kitchen, I said "stainless is nice but everyone's doing it. The trend might be gone by next year or so..." So I bought white. lol I guess not. Maybe I saw it as being "everywhere" because I've worked on a lot of houses at the time and saw them a lot. I must have seen them more than the average person, not in the construction business.

I do like the stainless look. I think it's a good contrast to the kitchen counters and cabinets, flooring etc... I would probably get that for another kitchen. I have terrible timing. I'll let everyone know when I decide, so you'll know when the "trend" is done. HA!

PS I like my white appliances. Nothing wrong with them really. The kitchen looks great IMO.

Ok, here is a question along these lines.....

For those of you who like white......what kind of cabinets and counters do you have?

We have oak cabinets and a dark tan with black specks marble countertop.......would you still choose white appliances? Oh, and our floor is a slate look.

Dawn

Black appliances would look very rich I think.

Default Fitting with rest of house

ok here is my problem. I have to choose my appliances this week for the new house. If I choose stainless, then the door pulls ,etc. will have to be silver or black. The kitchen is very open to the rest of the house. I have all gold things/ picture frames, candles etc. How will that silver look with the rest of the house beind 'gold accented' ? I can't afford nor want to throw out my things!

We ran into a somewhat similar problem when updating bathrooms recently. We have 80's shiny brass trim... around the shower enclosure, medicine cabinets, etc. We wanted to update the look, but without ripping everything out.

We saw a few faucets, drawer pulls, etc. that incorporated both gold and silver tones, so maybe that would be an option for you. There were not many however, so it does limit your choice as to style, etc.

Really I think it's fine to mix as long as it doesn't bother you.

I swear it's crazy how just because someone says it's the trend we have to go out and change everything. I was perfectly fine with my shiny brass light fixtures and such, but every realtor we talked to proclaimed them "dated" and said they must be changed if wanted to have any hope of selling our house.
