Default Geothermal a/c and heat?

Our 2nd floor a/c went out. We are considering putting in geothermal. We are on a well.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Dawn

The little research I've done shows it works great but you must have the land (and money) to install. Horizontal takes much area and vertical much digging.

Lateral line cost a little less and vertical, generally speaking you can recoup the cost of the unit in about 10 years.

Being on a well is immaterial- you can't share the water source, and your well is likely too small to accept another feed from the AC anyway.

If you're seriously considering it, it's a great option in your climate, but as mentioned above, you either need enough room to go horizontal with the loops, or you've got to spend some $$ to drill vertically. In either case, as Davart said, you're looking at a pretty long payback period, so if you're not planning on staying in the house that long, you're throwing $$ out the window (but of course, you're conserving energy- so you get to hug a tree...lol).
