The rear claws are far more powerful than the front so you'll just trade one problem for the same problem on any couch covering.
The best and simplest solution is daily brushing (our 2 cats line up in the morning they like the brushing so much!) and/or a washable throw cover over the sofa.
You will benefit by closer bonding with your "babies" and they will benefit from the brushing and love.
