Wow, maybe you are just too picky. I just use a dust mop every few days, and a slightly damp mop every week or so, but that's just because I think I should...not because they look dirty.

Generally, I sweep my floors and then mop it with almond oil. The floors look great afterwards.

Any suggestions for removing minor scratches?

In my previous house, I used Bona Swedish formula hardwood floor cleaner in a spray bottle. It's waterbourne and non-toxic according to the website. It can be found at hardware stores.

Never get them wet. Damp only. Best thing for them is vinegar and water - easy on the vingar. Use Murphy's Soap 3 times a wear but again, lots of water is bad for them.

I'm also a Bona products fan. I buy the concentrate, mix as directed, spray on the floor, spray a bit on the microfiber mop, and mop away.

I've bought the concentrate for less than $4 on ebay.

The guy that installed the site finished hardwood in our last house recommended it. He also firmly said no oil soap, no vinegar.

I also use Bona products. I sweep and swiffer daily (kids and pets) and use the spray and microfiber mop weekly or as needed. I haven't tried the refinisher yet, my floors don't need it. I don't want anything glossy. My floors seem to have a satin/matte finish.

I use Bruce Hardwood Floor Cleaner. I spray it on the floor and use a dry Schmop mop to wipe it (they're sold at Walmart for about $10.). Works great!

Hardwood floors are one of the easiest flooring types to keep clean.
The quickest and most effective way to clean hardwood floors is with a damp mop. Before mopping, make sure that you have removed all surface dust from the floor. This can be done with a soft broom or lightweight vacuum cleaner. Then, simply mop, rinse and repeat. It is important to remove grit and dirt from hardwood floors. Dirt and grit are the biggest enemies when it comes to scratching or scouring the floor finish.
There are many hardwood floor cleaners available, but a neutral cleanser (i.e., neither too low or too high a pH level) and water will do the job just as effectively. The hardwood floor must be properly sealed before any mopping. If there are worn patches, do not use water, as the liquid can penetrate the wood and cause warping.
