You know how when you buy a new house hold appliance you get one of those little cards that is supposed to "register" you in for some sort of warranty but it also asks things like what magazines you read and what your occupation is...?
I've never been one to fill one out because quite honestly I don't see how what race I am or what I like to do in my off duty time is of any importance to why I'd need to fill out a warranty card.
However as a owner of a new washer and dryer, i don't know if I should take the time out to fill those silly cards or go online....is there any importance to this? Or is the only reason they ask for this is so they can send you all the junkmail you don't need anyways?
In our last house we were having issues with the refrigerator. We called the company to find information about getting replacement parts and what to do with the problems we were having. The previous owners had filled out the registration information and because they did they had a record of the appliance and any other issues the previous owners had. Turns out they had a similar issue that had been fixed under warranty and since there was a history of this problem, they sent the replacement part for free .
When you fill them out and register the product you will have a much better chance of getting a warranty repair than if you don't.
I had a washing machine break and I wasn't sure when I bought it. I called Maytag and found out that I bought it 9 years and 8 or 9 months before (I thought it was 6 or 7 years maybe) and the part had a 10 year warranty.
If I had not registered I would have had to find the original invoice and prove when I bought it.
Most of the warranty registration forms have a place where you can opt out of getting mailings.
I can understand registering when and where I bought it....but when they start asking me about what magazines I read or what I like to do in my off time, that in itself raises a few questions...as to why that's so important. if I were a betting man, I'd bet it's so they can send me tons of junk mail. Save the trees. Really.
We also have a "junk" e-mail account for when we do fill in this kind of stuff. We use text and numbers in the e-mail because I heard that its harder for spammers to tag it. Don't know if thats true, but we dont get much spam.
WE use something like: 123stupidstu456 at whatever

I have one that's simply called something like theplaceforjunk@whatever. I use it all the time so my real email account doesn't get spammed.
