In our subdivision we can't park RV's in the driveway or on the street, no boats allowed on property. No outbuildings are allowed. Only pre-approved fence types are allowed and only for safety reasons and only in the back (few people have fences). No parking on lawns. All home exteriors must be in good condition, neat, well mowed, etc. Trash is picked up at your back door and must be in plastic bags or rented trash cans, lawn and yard clippings cannot be mixed with regular trash. Dogs must be on a leash unless they are in their own yard with a collar connected to invisible fence system. There are sound ordinances (no loud music), etc., etc.
Umm, there is no poll. However, I don't want zoning laws, HOAs, or any other regulatory body forbidding my neighbors from doing anything on their property, provided what they are doing is not illegal and is not harmful to anyone else. Maybe it's my libertarian viewpoint coming to the fore, but in my opinion HOAs make neighborhoods dull and boring, and suck the life out of anyone who has any sort of creative side. Add to that the fact that HOAs charge you for the privilege of letting them tell you how to landscape and where to park, and you have what in my opinion is a group of people that have too much free time and too little joy in their lives.
Most zoning laws don't make any sense even to the people that work for the zoning office. And I really don't think that an outside party should have any say over what you can or cannot do on property that is yours.
No communist HOA or any government agency should tell you or your neighbor what to do. Did you forget what country we live in. Freedom!! Remember that word? I didn't think so, I barely remember freedom myself and I'm old enough to remember.
As of now we still have the right to own, occupy and enjoy the fruits of our land. Anyone who tells you what you can and can't plant or park or build on YOUR property is a communist. Shame on anyone who supports these power hungry mongrels.
I, my father and my father's father fought and shed blood protecting our freedoms and here we are in 2011 supporting anti freedom regimes we now know is HOA. When some one wants to pay my mortgage then I will take down my American flag to satisfy the communist rule.

Anything you are allowed to do? When you see your neighbor Kim Jong Ill would ya say hello from me?
I will never understand how and why people would support such ideas. It's bad enough I got the county and city telling me what I can and can't do. Then you add a bunch of nosy bored fiddle farts? No thanks.
I don't like the dangerous breed dogs, don't like animal breeders, don't like cats crapping in my yard, don't like chained or caged animals, and no cars parked on the lawn. And please get rid of the Christmas stuff by the NFL Playoffs.
We have no HOA fees. We live in a beautiful neighborhood with tons of mature trees and landscaping, a country club, gorgeous golf course, several lakes, parks and homes that range in size from 2400 sf to 15,000 sf, ranging from 15 to 100 years old on acreage ranging from 1/4 of an acre to 10 acres. So, living next to someone who keeps goats in their yard and snarling dogs running loose with an old pile of rusting clunkers piled in the driveway is fine with most of you? How charming! What a wonderful example of freedom and choice. Thank goodness most of you would opt to not live in our neighborhood - thus the point in having ordinances and covenants - keep the riff raff out.

And paint our kitchen cabinets white! Seriously, though ... Agreed on all points. Aside from the basic safety issues of basic property maintenance (which I'm in violation of right now ), cars parked on the grass, tall weeds, boats and RVs parked in the yards, I"m not that fussy. If someone wants to quietly run an auto repair shop out of their garage, or paint their fence pink, more power to 'em.

I'd love the goats ... For one thing, they don't smell as bad as dogs.
