Default Carpet cleaning

Had our carpets steamed cleaned. The company says that they don't use soap but an Enzyme for the cleaning. Carpets look better but there is still an oder. I had someone else come and clean from the same company awhile back ago and the carpets didn't smell after the cleaning. Anybody know what this could be?

Active enzymes eat stuff. There has to be waste products. If it was left on the carpet, I can understand how the carpet might smell from continuing action. Re-cleaning with water should resolve it, if that is the case. Not terribly impressed with the carpet cleaner you hired, but very few of them impress me anyway.

I cannot explain the odor but it's all of the carpet area. I was reading that it could be the pad.

Yes, that is the most likely. The pad will soak up anything that spills on the carpet, and will also absorb odor. It's impossible to truly clean the pad with the carpet still on top; stinky pad usually requires replacement. How old is your carpet?

If the pad is still wet it will smell. If the cleaning company did not extract all of the moisture that is the likely culprit.

If the pad is wet, they cleaning company doesn't know what they are doing. Proper extraction does NOT wet the pad.

(Waste products from the enzymes - not from pets. Think byproduct of reactions, not poop. You wouldn't see the stuff, it might just be the odor.)
