In the interior of Alaska a vinyl window is much better than a metallic or even wooden one. It gets extremely cold in here, and vinyl is not affected by extreme temperatures as much as the rest. Wood is porous and absorbs moisture, specially inside the home by the sills, while metal gets cold very fast and stays that way. Moisture builds up on the cold metal and turns to ice, and this ice melts during the spring. I have seen some where fiberglass is used instead of vinyl, and some are paintable. But vinyl are the most popular.
Any opinions on brands? Eagle or Pella for casement windows? It looks like Eagle has more choices and options on colors, but the Pella name is more known.
