I'm in the process of renovating my kitchen and I am being charged $2,300 just to tile 13x10.4sf. kitchen floor, removing old cabinet $700, replacing new one $700, back splash $1000. This guy is not a licenced contractor but, he does a simple decent job. the labor for the tiling scares me, My question is that is this the normal pricing? thanks in advance 4 your input.
First of all you cannot get a quote in a forum. Second you need to be very specific on what you are requesting. Tiling a floor is work, and art, and lots of labor. And you Get what you pay for. Floor Prep. REmoval of old. Tighten old sub floor and Joists usually require work. Once that is done then you need to lay your hardy backer board 1/4" providing you have two layers of sub. Then you have to make sure your finished height will allow for dish washer. There are alot of things that need to happen. 10 dollars a pass is reasonable.
Let me share a story. My neighbors had a box store put in a new floor in there kitchen. It looked wonderful to them. Then I pointed out the flaws. Their jaws dropped. The biggest flaw of all was they could never get their dishwasher out unless they broke the floor out or removed the counter. ELEVATION. So bottom line you get what you pay for. And you weekend warriors crack me up.
Are you kidding price is high. Figure set up, mix up, tiling, not to mention the layout, then breakdown and come back the next day to grout. What did you say about the price again?
Aside from the bit of snark (it takes one to know one - lol), I learned something from Renovationguy's posts. Even though he didn't help the OP, it's good information for others reading this thread.
The average price in Texas is $2 a square just to lay not including any preparation which is always needed, so add about another $1 a square ft for prep cost, labor only, and $1 a square for grout, then add $3-$4 a square for demo. So about 1100 just to demo and straight lay, diagonal lay add another $1, more tedious and more cuts. So in new York it cost double? Prices do vary drastically from state to state.
I don't know much about what it costs to have tile installed, but $700 to remove an old cabinet and another $700 to install a new one? and $1000 for a backsplash? If these prices seem reasonable to you, please contact me for your next remodeling job.
Well you have no idea how intricate the backsplash is, how warped the walls and floors are. It may sound expensive but for all you know the guy may have to float or grind the floor, shim the cabinets of float the walls.
Op might have some crazy floor design or mosaic backsplash. Unless it's a basic. Here is a tic tac toe type grid for cheap or expect to pay a good amount for a herringbone pattern
$700 to install a bunch of cabinets seems fair to me. They gave to be perfectly level. If they aren't and you want granite it's gonna crack with unlevel cabinets
OP, if this is for the house in Wheatly Heights, Suffolk, LI, I'd say it's a fair price. But you really should get another estimate from a licensed contractor or contact Lowe's and get an estimate. I have a feeling you'll find the Lowe's estimate a lot more.

Ummm... the OP asked about this five years ago.
Needing another estimate now is very likely unnecessary.
