My "handyman" has struck again--he replaced a flapper in the toilet in our half bath and in our kids' bathroom. Both now require you to hold the handle down for several seconds for the toilet to flush completely. I have tried to adjust the chain length but that doesn't seem to help. What adjustments should I do to get these to flush right?

At the other end of the handle/chain is the flapper...
that appears to not be staying open long enough on it's own.

It should stay up on it's own with the water turbulence before resettling.
Continued tweaking the chain length might/should get you to the "sweet spot"

The old flapper (probably) had a better float in it...
or the chain length was tweaked better

If it the standard type of flapper, it depends on an air bubble in the open part of it to keep it floating once triggered. Either it is pulled too low and the downward suction is too great, too high, releasing the bubble, or the flapper is damaged. Most just snap on the pivot rod with the molded rubber c clamps. Remove and inspect. Watch the action as it works and adjust.
