In my master shower, the showerhead is to the right against a back back wall as well as the dial that turns it on, the door is immediately perpindicular. So to turn it on, I have to step into the shower, reach all the way to the right against the back wall and turn it on - I immediately get wet. I have tried to angle the showerhead to the left so it doesnt hit me but I always have to move it back because of the narrow shower I have.
Is there some sort of tool I can use to keep at arms length to turn on the shower? Something I am missing?
My old house had similar set-up. The way I dealt with it was to open the hot tap on the nearby lav sink until it was steaming. Then I could get into the shower stall and except for the first couple of seconds the water was nice and warm.
In current house I had the plumbers pipe the shower with a return loop and have multiple shower heads with separated shut off so that problem of having cold water to drain out of the system is minimized.
I suppose you could get one of those "grabber sticks" but that would make e feel too silly...
I at least want to see one of those grabber sticks - Where do you get them?
Most stores like Walmart and Target carry them. They are designed for people with limited mobility to get things of top shelves, etc. That would be an excellent idea I think....unless you want to spend the money to have your shower replumbed and move the shower head.
It never ceases to amaze me to this day, that there are some builders and plumbers who have heard this complaint over and over and still refuse to do the sensible thing-
Locate the control valve within an easy arms reach of the shower door.
All it requires is a few extra feet of supply line and an elbow or two.
Easy solution-
Right solution-
Go back to the builder (considering you've only been in the house a few months) and complain. And state so matter of factly- "How could you and your plumber be so stupid".
