If you are talking about companies that come in and spray that reglaze paint stuff? Then no, It does not last. My mother had her tub done and it chipped and flaked a year later. My sister-n-law had her tub and tile done. It lasted on the tile a bit longer but did eventually chip and come off. Its a mess.
I had an antique cast iron tub done and it was beautiful and did last.
I am sure, however, that grouted ceramic tile cannot be painted to last. I have a ceramic tile floor that I painted and it has to be repainted almost every other year. It was a hideous floor in a powder room with very beautiful and expensive wall tiles and fixtures that we did not want to tear out or tile over.
It's all in the prep. We had my mother's tub and tile coated with epoxy, and the crew spent tons of time cleaning it, and then etching it with an acid that provided a matte surface for the finish to bond to. It still looked great several years later. If you don't properly prep the surface, the epoxy won't bond.
The best scenerio is to look into a bathtub refinisher. Most of them will glaze tile shower walls as well and the price usually isn't that bad.
