If you have pets then carpet is not advisable so I guess the best option is tiles because it's easy to clean it. With wood I guess it's fine though I feel like it might absorb some odor in tiny areas of it but I'm not so sure.

I have tile throughout most of my upstairs and LOVE it. I have a cat who has constant GI problems at this point, and a very dusty cockatoo. Tile is my best friend.
