I bought a 12' x 30" Intex brand pool, I put it up two days ago, added chemicals as directed, ran the pump as stated, skimmed it a few times a day and the darn thing has green water. I shocked it and its still green, any suggestions?
Pretty common. Until water has the proper brew of buffers and balance, it'll do that. As suggested, bring a sample to a pool store for testing. The good news is you have a small pool.
I had one of these pools a few years ago. It took me about 2 weeks to perfect it (I was new to pool ownership). I took a sample of water to the pool store and they gave me suggestions. I found the chlorine tabs worked the best for me. I got a floater thing and put the tabs in it. It floats around the pool releasing the chlorine. I occasionally got some algae build up on the bottom around the rim, mainly along the stitching. I would get in the pool and rub my foot on it, releasing its grip from the liner, then got out, ran the filter and skimmed the top.
I think you should have an algaecide for sure! You won't need much. There are a variety and you may have to try a few and see what works best for your pool.. I add a little to my pool during the year. Get the non foaming kind and you may have to clear the water up with a quart of acid. I typically ph below 7, add some algaecide, then a bit more acid, then get ph to over 7 with chlorine. The chlorine from any bigbox store is fine, however, the best acid is found at the pool store as it is nearer to 12 mol( stronger). It is more expensive, but, well worth it.
One more thing! REALLY filter, filter , filter after you treat for algae; then clean the filter really good for a fresh start. Filtration is you friend overall !
