Default Tips on removing musty odor

We just bought a 4th row beach house on EI that has a downstairs efficience apt. It is very musty smelling--so much so that I can barely stand to be in it for more than a few minutes. We are up on a hill and not in a flood zone so I don't think that's an issue. What do people do to get rid of or avoid the mustiness?

A nice dry day you need to open every window and door and air that place out.
If it has carpet it needs to be replaced. You may have mold within the walls and insulation and you should have the place tested for mold especially if you plan on renting this out in the future.

If there is musty smell then there is mold or mildew and therefore the home does not have proper sealing from moistore and the seals of the windows and doors need to be look at.
